Handsets Technology Evolution from 2G to 3G: A long journey in a short time

摘要

This paper analyses the various major issues encountered and solved from time to time, to produce handsets, starting with the early introduction of global system for mobile communications (GSM) technology up to the latest universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) one. The technological progress already achieved and the difficulties which are currently slowing down the mass market launch of third-generation (3G) networks and services are described. Highlighted are the possible short-medium term solutions already available in the laboratories, but still to come in shops.
