EDITORIAL

I am delighted to be able to introduce a new theme - and a new look - for The Journal this year; namely, the important and often neglected subject of naming, numbering and addressing in telecommunications networks. Whilst most people are familiar with the relationship between the number 'dialled' (actually we only key these days) and the way a call is routed over fixed or mobile networks, they may not be so aware of the way that what is typed into an email 'To' box is translated into a delivery address for routine over the Internet.
