EDITORIAL

Our Journal this quarter has a distinctly forward looking flavour. The articles explore the factors that will be shaping future networks and the services that run on them. I am pleased to say that three of the articles emanate from ITP's Seminar held at the BT Centre on the 23rd April this year. This well-attended event gave an excellent introduction to the subjects of software-defined networks (SDN) and the often-associated network-functions virtualisation (NFV). Our other articles cover the future of cloud computing - an important adjunct to SDN and NFV -and the cities of the future.
