A Quantitative Analysis of the Maximum Achievable Capacity of Cognitive Wireless Mesh Networks

摘要

Capacity analysis is a fundamental and important issue for evaluating a Cognitive Wireless Mesh Network (CWMN). In this article, a closed-form quantitative result for the maximum capacity of CWMN based on the grid structure and protocol model is first presented, which is promised to be helpful for understanding the limitations of CWMN. We adopt a specific interference model, combined with the calculating of the exact average transmitting distance, to obtain the upper bounds of both backbone and subnet capacities of CWMN. And the quantitative result indicates that the capacity of CWMN is mainly determined by the activities of the Primary Users (PU), number of Cognitive Users (CU), interference parameter and average transmitting distance. Simulation results verify the validity of the theoretical analysis.
