Dear Members and Readers of Journal Thanks for overwhelming responses from readers all over India who liked the Editorial of July- Sept 14 issue. It is a good sign that technocrats liked the open hearted opinions I had expressed in last issue of Journal. Well! And as expected some positive movements are being done by the new government, though it will take some time to see the results. Why I say it is a good sign because I heard that the biggest Municipal Corporation in India, Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) has taken a step in processing the sewage water to recycle level and producing Biogas instead of partially treating it and allowing this partially treated sewage flow to the sea, endangering the marine life near Mumbai costal area. But it will take a lot of time for the IAS cadre controlling the corporation to come out of their vested interest tactics rather than supporting good ideas presented by technical staff. Any way it is the funeral of Mumbai city and can be overcome by state government only if they want to, by monitoring the deeds of these IAS officers. Why I say this is there was a biogas plant installed in British era at Dadar Pumping station and the gas produced was being distributed in Mumbai area through pipe lines. But when time came to revamp the plant the proposal was turned down and the system was allowed to rot.
