摘要

This paper addresses the often-overlooked problem of synthetic organic contamination of drinking water in India and suggests a decentralized, low cost, and environmentally sustainable alternative to activated carbon in water treatment: biochar derived from local bio-waste and invasive species. The paper describes the field implementation of such a biochar-based water kiosk in Dhulet village, Madhya Pradesh as a pilot-project and future opportunities for biochar use in a rural Indian context.
