In all developing cities, there is a great need of improvement of sewerage system due to population growth and city planning. Therefore, it is required to assess the adequacy and condition of existing sewerage system in the city area and for suggesting improvement in the design and planning of new system. For this a part of Indore city which is fast developing has been selected for the present study. During early years of designing conveyance system, manual calculations were practiced which are laborious to handle the data and results. Now a days, specific softwares have been developed to minimize the time for calculation and improved environments for documentation and presentations. One of such software is given by Bentley's products named 'SewerGEMS V8i'. The software offers a full range of possibilities for the designer to draw, label, dimension and plotting the drawings of the sewage networks. In the present study SewerGEMS V8i software has been used to design a Sewer Network for Azad Nagar area in Indore city. The existing sewerage system in Azad Nagar is discharging its sewage directly to the Azad Nagar drain. It is required to design a sewer network considering the invert level of the existing network as well as the area which is not covered by sewer network to carry the discharge from existing network and proposed network to respective treatment plant. After designing most feasible sewerage system it was observed that at some nodes self-cleansing velocity was not achieved. To attain the self- cleansing velocity two options were found feasible at the site either provision of small bore sewer or frequent flushing of manhole. Small bore sewer were provided where land availability was sufficient and in congested areas where land availability was less flushing manholes were provided. The cost estimation of proposed system indicates that O & M cost can be considerably reduced and approximately 3 lakh people will be benefited. The BOD load on Kahn river can also be reduced which is the need of the city.
