Dear Members and Readers of Journal, Ocean covers about 71% of Earth's surface. The remaining 29% is land includes continents and islands along with lakes, rivers and other sources of water. The majority of Earth's Polar Regions are covered in ice, including the Antarctic ice sheet and the sea ice of the Arctic ice pack. Natural land use pattern is drastically changed by introducing farming, human habitation and the industries. Earlier human habitation was scattered however it is now getting concentrated in form of urban agglomeration. Land is being used to dispose of the hazardous and non hazardous waste. Soon land will become a scare commodity to live. Fresh water is only available on 29% of land. It is present as ice sheets, ice caps, glaciers, icebergs, bogs, ponds, lakes, rivers, streams, and even underground water called groundwater. Fresh water is generally characterized by having low concentrations of dissolved salts and other total dissolved solids. Fresh water is not the same as potable water. Most of the earth's fresh water (surface and ground water) need the treatment to make it potable. Fresh water is getting polluted by human activities or due to naturally occurring processes, such as erosion. Natural & manmade water resources are getting encroached by urban sprawl. Agriculture runoff & indiscriminate discharge of sewage & effluent is polluting these water resources. For example Ujani Reservoir in Maharashtra is now ultimate storage of all the wastes discharge at upstream. Waste generated on the land due to anthropological activity ultimately joins our water resources. We are utterly failure in conserving, protecting and preserving land & water resources. There is urgent need to deal land and water resource together to preserve and protect them. All the stake holders including the decision makers and planner have to work together to handover the resources to our children.
