Haddad and Moravej discuss and point out the effect of scaling behavior of the annual maximum rainfalls (AMRs) of different durations on the result of the original Mann-Kendall (M-K) trend test, giving references to pertinent literature. They discuss the persistence effect by the Hurst coefficient (H). They have shown that the magnitudes of H for some of the 14 series of the Merzifon, Turkey, station are greater than 0.5, indicating scaling. These effects were not considered in the original study, and these tests have been simply carried out the way explained in a relevant and fairly recent report by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) (2009). The discussers may be right about these points. Due to preplanned and other routine responsibilities, the writers simply do not have sufficient time to perform all the analyses about the scaling effect and the persistence by the H coefficient in the short period to submit a closure. In the future, the writers may work on this and compare the results of considering the effects of persistence and H factor on rejecting the null hypothesis of the M-K test with so many AMRs series analyzed in the original paper. The General Directorate of Meteorology of Turkey makes available the recorded precipitation data at 5-year periods. The writers believe these analyses will be more meaningful with inclusion of the 2015 data, which will be available in 2016.
