Closure to 'Near-Transducer Errors in ADCP Measurements: Experimental Findings'

The authors welcome the extensive and detailed discussion on their paper. The discussion complements the reported results with valuable practical recommendations based on inferences from modeling and field measurements conducted by a team of well-known experts in the acoustic instrument area. This discussion is symptomatic for the fast emerging area of acoustic instruments whereby the time needed to thoroughly evaluate new instruments is by far exceeded by their developmental pace (Muste et al. 2011). In many cases, by the time the capabilities and limitations of existing new instruments are evaluated (e.g., Rio Grande ADCP under discussion) they become obsolete, as new configurations and models are promoted and introduced in operations (see the extensive list of other instruments awaiting similar analyses provided by the discussers). The authors respond to discussers' observations and comments in the order they were presented.
