Boston Becomes Largest U.S. City to Ban Smoking in Public Housing

On Sept. 30, a plan that was formally introduced in 2011 went into effect, banning anyone from smoking inside Boston Housing Authority (BHA) residential buildings. In a press release, the BHA noted that last January, public housing residents of the city began signing lease addendums requiring each household member and their guests to agree not to smoke inside their apartment, elsewhere in the building or within a specified distance from the building.
