HUD Makes $5 Million in Choice Neighborhood Planning Grants Available

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is making $5 million available in Choice Neighborhood Planning Grants to help communities begin the comprehensive neighborhood planning process to transform, rehabilitate and preserve distressed public housing and privately-owned, HUD-assist-ed housing into sustainable, mixed-income housing that connects to key services such as education and transportation and that supports positive outcomes for the neighborhood's family. Eligible applicants are: public housing authorities, local governments, tribal entities, nonprofit organizations and for-profit developers that apply jointly with a public entity. The application deadline is May 1, 2012. HUD anticipates awarding 17-20 grants with a maximum award amount of $300,000 each. For more information on current grantees, see part-ner.hud.gov.
