摘要

Poor people living in America's suburbs now outnumber those living in the cities and the number of suburban poor is growing at a faster rate, according to a newly-released-newly released Brookings Institution publication, Confronting Suburban Poverty in America. The new book, by Brookings fellows Elizabeth Kneebone and Alan Berube, notes that between 2000 and 2011, suburban poverty saw a 64 percent increase while urban poverty increased by 29 percent. By 2011, the poor in the suburbs outnumbered those in the city by about 3 million.
