This third edition of this book covers a very dynamic ever-changing service within the Library Community. Changes in licensing digital content can be blatant or subtle and this resource is the guide to help the reader discover these differences. The experienced librarian in digital content will want to begin with chapters 4 and 5. These two chapters covering key digital clauses and boilerplate clauses will bring the reader up to speed quickly. The design of all of the chapters using subtitles and licensing tips under the subtitles in gray space helps the reader find key information quickly. Such tips as reminding the librarian that the license should allow the necessary access so the content can be used for its intended purpose are important. Chapter 5 zeros in on boilerplate clauses (standard-form provisions) beginning with a list of common boilerplate clauses. The chapter then defines these clauses with clear definitions and details, e.g., a binding effects clause should include allowing the license agreement to benefit successors, administrators and even affiliates and heirs in the case of private libraries. Experienced librarians know that it is the negotiations for licenses with vendors that can make or break a service to users. Chapter 6 is the best basic knowledge on negotiations. Simple advice such as knowing what is wantedeeded and how much money is available can make a licensing agreement be successful. More detailed advice during a negotiation includes: 1.
