Patient Education and the Hospital Library: Opportunities for Involvement

Medical librarians have long played a role in the provision of patient education materials, and over time they have witnessed how the Internet has significantly changed the way patient education materials are found, accessed, and used-and not only how they are used, but by whom. Although many patients may take it upon themselves to find consumer health information, the health care provider still plays a vital role in patient education and can be an initial source of patient education materials.
