Projects are a fact of life in libraries of all sizes. Effectively and successfully managing a project involves discipline and a specific set of skills. In Project Management in Libraries: On Time, on Budget, on Target, author Carly Wiggins Searcy draws on her experience as a certified Project Management Professional and librarian to help the reader understand the benefits of structured project management. The first several chapters lay the groundwork for the rest of the book. Searcy begins by talking about what constitutes a project and explains that everyday tasks are not projects. She then moves on to define project management, discuss why it matters and introduce the five process groups that all projects should go through. Chapter 3 is devoted to meeting management and includes a checklist for meeting preparation. In chapter 4 Searcy provides helpful advice relating to project management tools and introduces several of the major project management tools—both proprietary and open access—that are currently available.
