摘要

Graphic design, like love in the 1967 Troggs' tune, is all around: in our books and magazines, in television shows and movies, on blogs and Web pages, on signs and billboards, and on millions of product labels and packages. Humans are highly visual creatures, hardwired to respond to motion, color, shape and texture. We are also highly social and profoundly dependent on the myriad ways in which we communicate and share information with each other. Graphic design, Diana Wakimoto says in the introduction to this book, conveys information visually using text and/or images. Like anyone marketing a product or promoting a service, libraries use graphic design to establish their identity, tell their story, and engage readers. Librarians who create fliers or posters, prepare handouts, or update their Web sites are using graphic design. Most, the author asserts, have little or no training in using this essential tool. She wrote Easy Graphic Design for Librarians: From Color to Kerning to help them understand graphic design basics and use them effectively.
