Seventy-five years ago a stroke of good fortune saw brothers Tom and Guy Southwell buy an unpromising-looking animal for their fledgling Hempholme, Driffield, enterprise. She was the last heifer of that day's sale at York and they didn't want to return home empty-handed. She was to prove herself as a most influential foundation cow - and she still has daughters in today's herd. Fast forward two generations and today Joanne Chapman manages the 133-cow herd with her husband Andrew and her parents Mike and Jill.
