Update: PHMSA's Plan to Reform the Reporting and Assessment of Hazardous Materials Incidents Under MAP-21

Pursuant to the Congressional mandate in MAP-21, PHMSA conducted an internal assessment of its data collecting and analysis procedures regarding hazardous materials transportation incidents. In the assessment, PHMSA identified a number of proposed reforms to increase the sufficiency and accuracy of information submitted by filers, and consequently increase PHMSA's ability to process the data and gain an appreciation of the issues challenging the industry. Through such action, PHMSA aims to improve its capacity to make the necessary policy and regulatory changes to ensure safe transportation of hazardous materials.
