摘要

In response to the letter submitted by Philippe C. Baveye titled "Visible and near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy is of limited practical use to monitor soil contamination by heavy metals" [1], we would like to clarify that it was not our intention to suggest that the visible and near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy (VNIRS) could "replace" the analytical laboratory technique and to perpetuate "a myth that may have regrettable consequences if it results in the premature closing of direly needed analytical facilities around the world". On the contrary, we described that the VNIRS technique depends on the traditional laboratory methods for heavy metal measurements (see Fig. 1 of [2]).
