Closure to 'Parametric Study of One-Dimensional Solute Transport in Deformable Porous Media' by Akram N. Alshawabkeh and Nima Rahbar

The discussers have provided valuable contributions (Peters and Smith 2002; Smith 2000) on contaminant transport through a deformable soil. We appreciate their work and value the time and effort they invested to assess and clarify some of our conclusions. We are pleased to have an opportunity to respond. Two issues were raised: (1) our statement regarding the 95% reduction in breakthrough time for Case II is not realistic; and (2) the discrepancy between the governing equations employed in the model and those of Peters and Smith (2002). Below is our response to the two points.
