Research in the fields of pattern recognition and biometrics are beginning to merge with the casework of the Forensic Document Examiner (FDE). Researchers are providing new ways to apply computer-based systems to assist in the casework of FDEs, as well as continuing to establish the scientific basis for handwriting identification. The focus of Volume 21 of the Journal of Forensic Document Examination (JFDE) continues to be on scientific developments in handwriting identification.
