The EU Merger Regulation Ten Years after the 2004 Review

Nearly ten years after the last major overhaul of the EU Merger Regulation (Council Regulation (EC) No 139/ 2004), the European Commission has now taken new initiatives in the legislative field to further strengthen EU merger control, one of the central pillars of EU competition law. The objective of the initiatives is twofold: to make EU merger control more efficient and to ensure that it addresses all sources of possible competitive harm caused by corporate restructuring.
