ATMOSPHERIC POLLUTION WITH POPs - PROBLEMS RELATED WITH ENVIRONMENT AND POSSIBILITIES FOR PROTECTION

The present document summarises the results of the National Inventory for identification and quantification of Dioxins and Furans, PCBs, HCB and PAHs releases and emissions in Bulgaria. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the Bulgarian situation concerning the presence of Persistent Organic Pollutants in the emissions, i.e. Dioxins and Furans, PCBs, HCB and PAHs, and to estimate the effect of these releases on the environment and human health. Strong adverse effects of POPs releases (even in trace concentrations, but continuously and spread all over the country) to the environment and human health require more attention to be given especially for optimisation of the technological conditions. Different disposal options are proposed.
