SURVEY OF PESTICIDE APPLICATION. PRACTICES AND ASSURANCE PROBLEMS FROM AN IMPORTANT CROP-GROWING REGION IN ALBANIA

The survey was done in the Korcha region, which is located in southeastern part of Albania. This district represents a large part of the crop-growing area of the country and includes all major crops. Interviewers were requested during initial briefing and in a covering letter to the questionnaire, to visit several locations (not just one village) and to try covering both market-oriented farm businesses and small family holdings. Information was obtained from a total of 153 farms. The original completed questionnair.es have been lodged with the Section of Pesticides and Weeds at the Plant Protection Institute and can be accessed if required for further collation ant analysis than that permitted by the three-four days available in the present mission. Even this fairly simple survey generated many thousands of individual items of data, which could take several weeks to study in full details. However, it is felt that the basic summary presented here provides much useful information and that the law of diminishing returns will apply to further analytical efforts.
