ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGIES (ODESSA REGION CASE STUDY)

Over the last years the dimensions of our current resource use and the consequences of this in terms of impacts on the environment induce serious damages that go beyond the carrying capacity of the environment. 15 out 24 ecosystem services that provide raw materials and support life on Earth are being degraded or used unsustainably, threatening the planet. Deterioration of environment is causing drastic impact on the quality of economics and social life. Realisation of geo-economics and geo-political interests of Ukraine, especially now in time of implementation of policy of integration of Ukraine in the European Union is connected with implementation of the strategies of sustainable development. They are focused on the reduction of environmental impacts on conditions of growing economic and social sector. The government policy of Ukraine for achieving sustainability and long-term development has to be based on the regional strategies. In this study we will present sustainability strategies for Odessa region (Ukraine).
