POSSIBILITIES FOR UTILISATION IN CEMENT INDUSTRY OF SOLID WASTES, GENERATED FROM TPS 'SVILOSA JSC

As a result of coal burning in power plants huge amounts of slag and ash are generated. Common practice is the waste from power plants to be dumped on landfill. Because of its nature - non-toxic, proper chemical and physical characteristic, there are a lot of possibilities for its utilisation. In the present study we have examined one of the possibilities - utilisation in building industry. The aim of the study is to examine the possibilities of power plant waste utilisation for building materials or directly in cement production. Different proportions of cement, sand, slag and other components have been used during studies. According to Bulgarian standards the sizes of products are as follows: cube shape with sides 100x100x100 mm and biggest particles in product less than 20 mm. The products were tested for mechanical stability in accordance with Bulgarian standards - BDS 7268-83 and BDS 505-84 for determination of concrete classes. On the basis of the results obtained recommendations for waste utilisation in cement /building industry are proposed.
