STUDY OF ANTHROPOGENIC EFFECTS ON THE QUALITY OF THE LOWER PRUT RIVER

This paper presents a study of anthropogenic effects on the quality of the Prut river taking into account the dispersion processes. The dispersion model will cover some physicochemical parameters and some chemical pollutants, and it is based on measurements made by responsible authorities in charge with water management as well as the laboratory European Centre of Excellence for the Environment (ECEE) of environmental quality within the Lower Danube University of Galati. The study covers two years in order to assess any possible influence of the seasonal variation of debit on pollutant concentration. Our results show that the Prut river is less affected by anthropogenic activities, since these are less represented along the river. A large part of the river is bordered by a protected area where no industrial activity is allowed. However, there are some marks of the human activity that seem to originate mainly in agricultural activities and farms.
