Short-term mean, maximum, and minimum temperatures of the city Cluj-Napoca, located in north-western Transylvania (Romania), were analysed to reveal significant warming (cooling) trends and trend rates per year. The short-term change in temperature has been evaluated by the Student /-test and linear trend. An increasing trend of approximately 1.574℃/35 years (α = 0.001) in the annual mean temperatures is found during the period from 1974 to 2008. Annual maximum temperatures have dramatically increased with 2.712℃ (α = 0.001) over the last 35 years. Annual minimum temperatures have decreased, over the same period, but not statistically significant. Probably, this decrease in temperature can be ascribed to urbanisation or the amount of suspended paniculate matter (SPM) in the ambient air during the last years.
