FRESHWATER FISH CAPTURES IN THE DANUBE RIVER IN THE BRAILA SECTOR AND THE GALATI SECTOR, WITHIN THE PERIOD OF 2006-2008

The purpose of this paper is to analyse the differences between fish resources and fish availability in freshwater fish species in 2 different sectors of the Lower Danube river, the Braila sector and the Galati sector. The analysed indicators describing the status of the freshwater fish community in the 2 different sectors of the Danube river are: (la) total capture (t/year); (1 b) total capture per unit area (t/year × km); (2) total number offish species (number of species/year); (3) number of valuable fish species (number of species/year); (4) number of ruling fish species (number of species/year); (5) abundance of feeding groups (%/guild), and (6) abundance of flow preference guilds (%/guild). The qualitative aspects offish captures salient in the last 4 indicators highlight certain similarities and some differences between the 2 sectors. The total number offish species captured annually was higher in the Braila sector (the maximum was 20 species) but the number of valuable, respectively ruling, fish species was the same in the 2 sectors. There were 8 ruling fish species which dominated the capture (relative biomass > 10%): carp, goldfish, common bream, bighead carp, wells catfish, barbel, vimba, northern pike.
