The study is a part of a complex research on developing a carp genetic breeding program to ensure bioresources for future generations and preserve the natural environment. The work is to identify the selection indices using two morphological characters that can lead to maximising the production of meat in a population of Ropsa cyprinids. Biological material considered was the 50 individuals of Ropsa carp, from 5 families monitored until the age of two years and one summer. The selection index structure has characters that can be measured on animal alive like the live weight, the length and maximum height of the body. For each variant was determined the line vector of partial regression coefficients and the hierarchy was based on the accuracy of genetic evaluation (rix) and genetic progress (AB) offered by each variant. After calculating selection indices for the two characters, it was found that selection to maximise production of meat in a cyprinid population of Ropsa breed can be performed on an index for couple of characters: maximum live weight and body height. It has recorded a selection accuracy of 74.36% and provides a genetic gain of 45.098 g per live weight. By transformation of morphological characters of individuals in the population of cyprinids can increase the quantity of meat/individual and contribute to sustainable aquaculture development.
