Air pollution in the urban environment is a major issue of our day with major implications for human health. At present, in a number of European cities, traffic in large urban agglomerations is restricted by various measures. Starting from these realities, the present paper makes a hierarchy of areas with intense traffic, where the air quality is affected by various pollutants. The hierarchy is done using multi-criteria evaluation methods. Now, there are several commonly used Multiple-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) methods for assessing the impact of pollutants on the environment. In this research, we used the Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) multi-criteria method to evaluate each sampling station physicochemical parameters. In order to obtain the values of the air pollution factors, the Synchro software was used, which automatically calculates these parameters according to the measured traffic at a given moment. One of the most important objectives of this paper is to investigate the traffic problem and the related air pollution in the city of Sibiu. The characteristics of the city of Sibiu (high buildings, narrow streets, lack of parking stations, etc.) contribute to the aggravation of traffic conditions and hence to increasing pollutant emissions and concentrations. Another important aspect of this work is the fact that the method of research used, makes the link between road traffic optimisation Synchro Studio software, and the AHP multi-criteria method, which is very little used in researches.
