In this research, regeneration of the waste catalyst that contains high percentage of coke using microwave irradiation is studied to test the feasibility of this regeneration method. The results show the coke removal rate was 97.5% when the waste Pt-catalyst, mixed with micron iron, was treated for 4 h under oxygen-rich air (40% O-2) environment with 450 W microwave power. The surface area of the catalyst increased from 40.1 to 137.1 m(2)/g. The coke deposits disappeared from the flat structure of the waste catalyst. The catalyst activity was restored after using this innovative technology of microwave energy treatment.
