This study was conducted to exhibit the effects on soil carbon mineralisation of different doses [recommended dose (RD), x 2RD and x 4RD] of glyphosate-amine salt (480 g/l) used in the fight against harmful grasses on the orange grove soil of Erzin district of Hatay (Turkey) in the laboratory conditions (28 degrees C, 48 days). Soil samples were taken from the orange grove before and after the glyphosate-amine salt spraying and also Osmaniye Korkut Ata University for using as a clean area in the comparisons. Carbon mineralisation of three group soils moistened to 80% of the field capacity was determined by CO2 respiration method. The C mineralisation of the control orange soil before (BOS) and after (AOS) herbicide spraying was found significantly lower than the recommended dose, it is 2 and 4- time amounts (P 0.05). The C mineralisation was not affected by all herbicide additions (P 0.05) in the campus soils (CS) which are preferred as clean area. These findings showed that the glyphosate-amine salt added to the orange soils sampled separately before and after spraying was used as a carbon source by the microorganisms that persisted in the soil. The microorganisms in the campus soil indicated the tolerance to this herbicide for the first time, but this tolerance might change depending on the time.
