Direct torque control (DTC) and Fuzzy Logic Control (FLC) are two techniques that have recently attracted the attention of motor drives researchers, as well as motor drives manufacturers. The DTC has introduced low cost and fast response to high performance drives, while FLC has introduced simplicity and logical thinking approach to the control algorithms. The implementation of both control methodologies has been enhanced through the use of digital signal processors (DSP). The paper presents the design and implementation of an inverter fed induction motor drive using direct torque methodology, fuzzy logic voltage vector selector controller, and implementing the technique using a digital signal processor kit. The experimental study verifies the simplicity and flexibility of the practice and states requirements for high performance operation.
