摘要

Escolars captured by longline in 1988 off the southeast coast of the United States were examined for length-weight and various selected body organ weight relationships. A 184 cm total length specimen is now the largest documented specimen known. High monoens and wax esters apparently help their buoyancy in epipelagic waters. High levels of total saturated fats, monoens, omega 3S and 6S, and total PUFA levels apparently contribute to the purgative aspects of their meats. Further use as a food in the US has been restricted by the USFDA.
