New Components Build New Power Into Games, Displays, Cars

For manufacturers of electronic components, sales and profits are difficult to come by in today's market. However, with several exciting technologies that have the potential to garner strong appeal, tomorrow's market for components should be promising. That was the message of Masataka Kataoka, President of Alps Electric Co., Ltd., at CEATEC Japan 2002. Kataoka spoke at the opening reception of the trade show, which took place Oct. 1 to 5 at Makuhari Messe in Japan's Chiba prefecture. "The market condition for electronic components will remain tough for some time," said Kataoka. "However, products that have been waiting in the wings, such as digital home information appliances, mobile information terminals, third-generation (3G) mobile phones and car information equipment, are expected to take off in coming years, creating large markets. We anticipate the growth of these products. The situation encourages us to work harder to help jump-start the revitalization of Japanese industries, such as the components industry."
