The price of car audio products continues to decline on global markets, and sales have stagnated. In this tough environment, Alpine Electronics, Inc. is working hard to increase sales by focusing on its "Mobilemedia" lineup. That includes CD receivers, navigation equipment and rear-seat entertainment systems that have received high marks for their excellent sound quality. Kozaburo Umeda, Managing Director, Marketing & Sales, in charge of aftermarket car audio-visual products, says car audio equipment is becoming a commodity worldwide and prices have declined sharply. Alpine in the first half of FY2003 also has seen a nearly double-digit decline in sales of A/V products in the car after-market. This is attributed to a market already saturated with major growth products and a dearth of attractive new products.
