Showcasing PDP, LCD TVs, CES Exhibitors Jostle for Attention

Exhibits featuring plasma display panel (PDP) TVs and LCD TVs were among the highlights of Consumer Electronics Show 2003 (CES2003), which took place in Las Vegas, the United States, from January 9 through 12. Interest in TV technology was especially high because the transition to digital broadcasting is gathering noticeable momentum in the United States. Other products widely displayed included DVD recorders, digital cameras and mobile phones. Many exhibitors also used the event to showcase wireless technologies and small memory cards that connect these audio-video (A/V) and information appliances, as well as one-chip semiconductor products that serve compact, high-functional devices. About 2,000 companies from about 100 countries took part in CES2003. Manufacturers introduced a broad array of products and technologies. These ranged from digital home electronics, network products and mobile devices, to information appliances and products with content, such as software. The four-day event drew about 100,000 visitors.
