Sharp Corp. plans to step up sales of LCD TVs in North America starting in 2003. With the increased visibility of its AQUOS series LCD TVs, Sharp has enjoyed brisk sales of LCD TVs in Japan. The AQUOS series is gradually entering overseas markets as well. In 2003 Sharp will focus on sales of LCD TVs in overseas markets as well, especially in North America, which has a huge market. Masatsugu Teragawa, General Manager, LCD Digital Systems Division, says the success of the AQUOS series has allowed Sharp to increase sales of LCD TVs in FY2002 much faster than what the company had originally projected. Sharp said it will introduce a 37V-inch large LCD TV, currently popular in Japan, to North America in the beginning of 2003.
