JVC's D-ILA Rear Projection TV to Compete With PDP, LCD TVs

Among the series of developments that are changing the wide-screen TV market in the United States, nothing can have more impact on the industry than the decline in prominence of the cathode ray tube-equipped rear projection TVs (CRT PTVs). Previously secure in playing the leading role in the market for 40-inch or larger TVs, CRT PTVs are rapidly being replaced by rear projection TVs that use high-temperature polysilicon TFT LCD panels, or those which use a digital micromirror device or other mi-crodisplay devices (MD PTVs). Industry analysts believe that in the future, nearly half of the rear projection TV market will be based on the MD PTV platform.
