Production of consumer electronics equipment in Japan, primarily audio-visual (A/V) products, is expected to reach ¥2.2726 trillion in 2003, up 14.9 percent from 2002, according to the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA). While production of mature products continued to shift to overseas plants, manufacturers still produced digital imaging products with high added value in Japan. These products, including digital still cameras, flat TVs such as plasma display panel (PDP) TVs and LCD TVs, DVD recorders and car navigation systems, allowed production in Japan to recover to the ¥2 trillion mark for the first time since 2000. JEITA forecasts double-digit growth in 2004 as well.
