Electronic displays equipped with touch panels are an increasingly familiar sight in today's society. The first displays with touch panels were relatively small and most of such displays use resistive film touch panels. Now, however, larger displays are more common. As larger displays come into use, the touch panel industry is focusing more attention on optical touch panels, which are often more practical than resistive film touch panels for larger displays. Optical touch panels, with a history going back 20 years, offer many advantages over competing technologies. The panels have a high transmission factor, are highly reliable and stand up well under a wide range of environmental conditions. This is why such panels are often used in automatic teller machines (ATMs) at banks, in ticket vending machines at rail stations, in kiosks at convenience stores, in car navigation systems and in factory automation equipment.
