One of the latest rear-projection systems from Hitachi Limited combines the imaging power of a liquid-crys-tal-on-silicon devicewith easy maintenance and adjustment. The EX50-118CMF, which Hitachi's ubiquitous platform group developed, has been available in Japan since July. The company now is considering when to begin offering the product in other countries. The reflection-format liquid crystal element casts images on a 50-inch screen, offering XGA-mode resolutions with 1,024 x 768 dots. Contrast ratios reach 1,500:1 with a luminance of 1,000:1.
