At the end of 2006, Sony Corp. introduced the BDP-S1 Blu-Ray Disc (BD) player in the United States. The BDP-S1 has a dual-layer lens for up to 50GB of storage capacity and read support for recordable BDs (BD-Rs) and rewritable BDs (BD-REs).rnThe BDP-S1 is a substantial unit with a silver casing and blue glass covering half of the faceplate. The power up and tray open-close buttons on the upper right corner of the unit operate with a soft touch and produce a soft white glowrnwhen the unit is powered up. Through a High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) connection, the BDP-S1 features 1920 x 1080-line progressive (1080p) output, the highest high-definition (HD) signal output currently available.
