Olympus Imaging, Panasonic Team Up on Micro Four Thirds System Standard

Olympus Imaging Corporation and Panasonic have agreed to develop the technologies and devices for the Micro Four Thirds System, a new standard that extends the benefits of the Four Thirds System standard for interchangeable lens of digital cameras. The collaboration enables the development of a more compact and lightweight interchangeable lens based on the Micro Four Thirds System standard. Compared to the Four Thirds System, the Micro Four Thirds System has about 50 percent shorter flangeback distance, and has 6mm smaller outer diameter of the lens mount. Furthermore, electrical contacts in mount increased from nine to 11.
