Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd. is counting on its solar business to drive its recovery. Under the company's Challenge 1000 medium-term management strategy, the company will "achieve complete recovery in FY2010," says Seiichiro Sano, President. Currently, the solar cell business, mainly in the European market, offers such strong products as heterojunction with intrinsic thin-layer (HIT) solar cells, which deliver among the highest the largest conversion efficiencies in the industry. The company will invest about ¥80 billion over the next three years in the solar cell business.
