The development of the information technology and com-nputer networks facilitates easy duplication, manipulation, and dis-ntribution of digital data. Digital watermarking is one of the pro-nposed solutions for effectively safeguarding the rightful ownershipnof digital images and video. We propose a public digital watermark-ning technique for video copyright protection in the discrete waveletntransform domain. The scheme uses binary images as watermarks.nThese are embedded in the detail wavelet coefficients of the middlenwavelet subbands. The method is a combination of spread spectrumnand quantization-based watermarking. Every bit of the watermarknis spread over a number of wavelet coefficients with the use of ansecret key by means of quantization. The selected wavelet detailncoefficients from different subbands are quantized using an optimalnquantization model, based on the characteristics of the human visualnsystem (HVS). Our HVS-based scheme is compared to a non-HVSnapproach. The resilience of the watermarking algorithm is testednagainst a series of different spatial, temporal, and compression at-ntacks. To improve the robustness of the algorithm, we use error cor-nrection codes and embed the watermark with spatial and temporalnredundancy. The proposed method achieves a good perceptual qual-nity and high resistance to a large spectrum of attacks
