It's probably a good thing that I'm not a senior Pentagon planner. For that matter, also not a counterpart in London, Paris, or any other seat of power where, depending on your view, professionals (or bureaucrats) are deciding how to spend finite and invariably insufficient defense appropriations. I'd probably be accused of preparing for the last conflict, not the next. My rebuttal would be that others appear to be preparing for either a type of conflict last seen decades ago, or of a variety never before seen, and unlikely ever to be seen.
