Bioremediation of papermill effluent in terms of changes in the physico chemical parameterswere studied using alginate immobilized Spirulinaplatensis. pH, DO, BOD, COD, TSS, TDS Nitrate and Phosphate of the papermill effluent were estimated and it was 9.4,3.7 mg/l, 290,430, 1553,1622, 25 mg/l and 8.7 mg/l, respectively. After 8 days bio treatment with alginate immobilized S.platensis, through batch process the physico chemical parameters were changed; pH, BOD, COD, TSS, TDS Nitrate and Phosphate were reduced by 10,65.5,48.83,72.63,72.19,50 and 100%, respectively but the DO was increased by 67.5 %. The results of the study revealed that alginate immobilized 5. platensis can be used for the bioremediation of papermill effluent.
